The member of Congress are not adding pork barrel spending because the States are struggling; rather most of pork is added to gain support for a bill going through Congress.

Sen. Obama stated that, if elected president, he will not sign legislation that had pork attached to it. Well on his first chance, he did just that. The signing of the "Stimulus" bill contained over 900 pet projects. Rather amazing they were in there since not one member on Congress has gone on record to have reading the entire bill.

I do agree with you that the tax code needs changing and the election process too. I have blogged on both in the past.

Although I disagree that the 10th Amendment is being overplayed.tthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09917268285666551114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9075324469668918466.post-63935883686303363982009-11-21T16:46:47.936-06:002009-11-21T16:46:47.936-06:00I happen to think that the whole 10th Amendment vi...I happen to think that the whole 10th Amendment violation is quite overblown.
What you see is actually a version of cooperative federalism, which allows states to pursue their own implementation of national programs using federal guidelines and I, for one, see no problem with it.
So how do we fix the issue? You stated that in over 200 years the federal government has grown incrementally. It seems to me that we elect leaders who rail against spending with one hand and then add unseen pork projects with the other. Why? Because the states are too busy dealing with their own budget issues. All states have balance budget clauses in their constitutions that they are required to keep. Yet their prison populations are exploding, crime, public health, poverty, etc. all have to be dealt with.
1)Corporate america needs to play a more central role in providing for the public good
2)The tax code needs to change
3)Elections need to change
4)Local economies need to be funded more over the states.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
