To the Gnostics Jesus came to earth to free our souls from this world. The reason I mentioned it was because of your reference to Mother Sophia which is code for the dualism that the Gnostics beleived...dualism, meaning two, the true "God/spirit" who is the light and the malevolent creator of Earth who keeps our minds in the dark. Yadda, yadda, yadda...it really goes on and on. You are right that Gnostics had no set ceremony, or ritual to adhere to, but they definately had a belief system/dogma.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05590684274356162833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9075324469668918466.post-2253161326799885422010-05-08T23:03:32.978-05:002010-05-08T23:03:32.978-05:00In where you are long is your thought is that Gnos...In where you are long is your thought is that Gnostics had a dogma. No dogma exists within Gnostic teachings. It makes Christains sleep easier at night to think a dogma exists. There is a reason why no words could describe the knowledge that Jesus bestowed upon his discplines. Dogma will not lead one to that salvation.tthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09917268285666551114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9075324469668918466.post-88441226153201927042010-05-08T22:02:42.761-05:002010-05-08T22:02:42.761-05:00Though I do not get into Gnostic dogma as I don’t ...Though I do not get into Gnostic dogma as I don’t really think it’s necessary to believe literally, it is important to be introspective on Mother’s Day and express our appreciation not only for our own mother’s but motherhood.

You know, many Gnostics did not believe in procreation of the species. They believed that to imprison another soul in this evil world only helped to sustain it. As a result, many Gnostics were celibate, which is one of the reasons why Gnosticism was unable coexist with the organized church of Orthodox Christianity. The believers in the secret teachings of Jesus were solitary, non-conformist, so their knowledge, experiences and faith usually died with them. Gnostics were not evangelists; they considered themselves fortunate to realize the meaning of life, as it was a secret that only the individual in search of Gnosis can endeavor to realize.

We are so lucky to have found the few ancient texts that survived the ages, but those texts where meant for those who already “know” and they are not for the novice Christian. The Gospels were faith 101, Gnosis was higher learning. Gnosis is the church of one…the church of the mind, the church that freed the individual from the ignorance and selfishness of the world. Gnostic Christianity has not Cathedral build of stone, but Cathedrals of thought and expression. I’ll end with my favorite hidden saying of Jesus.

“Listen to the truth, understand knowledge, love life and no one will oppress you other than yourselves.”Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05590684274356162833noreply@blogger.com
