The Role of Guns in our society

Nearly every legislative body is discussing the top of gun violence or gun control. For the past few days and including today hearings are being held at the Minnesota state capital on all aspects of guns. Today they will be holding a hearing on ammunition clip size. I know I have blogged prior on the issue of gun control and violence but we still need to keep the focus on the ball.

Just this week the Department of Justice released an argument for the use of Drones to monitor and kill American citizens abroad as well as here in the United States. Mind you that this is the same Department of Justice that felt our brave men and women fighting around the world should issue the Miranda Warning to those that are trying to kill them. People have made the argument that average citizens do not need "assault" or military style weapons in there homes and that our police force should never be out gunned. The fallacy to that point is the Police have nothing to fear from the law abiding citizen and the criminal will find a means to obtain those weapons regardless of what ever law is placed on the books.

It is true that as a hunter I do not need more than four or five bullets in my clip at any one time. Yet to go down that road is a distraction from the conversation. Our Fore Fathers, despite their short comings, understood what it meant to live under tyranny. Those that seek our shores for a better life have a firm grasp on tyranny as well. That understanding and first hand experience of our Fore Fathers is the foundation for implementing the Second Amendment.

Through the ratification of the Second Amendment in the United States Constitution is was forged that every citizen have the capability to fight back tyranny in what ever form it takes. While in my lifetime I may never witness such decay in our ruling class to the point that a King or Queen or Dictator is substituted for the Republic, there does exist that possibility at some point in the future. One step to enact that transformation is to ensure the citizenry has no means of protecting the Republic.

Some reading this will dismiss that last paragraph but look at recent legislation passed through Congress and signed into law. A few examples are NAFTA, Patriot Act, Healthcare Mandate, and now a legal argument for the use of Drones to assassinate Americans here and abroad. Individually these acts and resolutions by our Federal government has eroded our freedom and liberty of a free society. With the Supreme Court ruling that the Healthcare Mandate is Constitutional based on it is a tax opens Pandora's Box to more tax mandates.

Don't be surprised that if a Representative or Senator puts forth a bill to implement a steep tax on the number of bullets one has or on the number and types of guns one owns. Why do you think they are pushing so hard for this national database for background checks and gun registry? It is not to keep criminals from obtaining weapons it is to help them identify where the weapons are so at some point in the future they can levy a tax in hopes of disarming America. Demand your freedom before your ability to do so is taken away!

Thanksgiving Day

Many of us will embark on a journey today to meet with friends and families and gorge on the bounty of the fall harvest. Others will find that comfortable recliner and doze off and on with whistles and pads hitting each other in the background. Then there will be a segment of our population that won't participate in any of this for one reason or another. No matter the location, the activity, the abundance of food and people one surrounds themselves with today - Just be thankful that we all go to sleep at night and then wake up in the morning in a country that allows us freedom to pursue the path in life we wish.

I am thankful and blessed that my family has the freedom to pursue any path in life they desire. I am also thankful and blessed for the conversations I have on a daily basis ranging from mundane weather to the complex economy. A recent conversation surrounded around the topic that received a lot of press from the Left based off an interview that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) gave to GQ magazine.

In case you missed the article or don't tune into the Left wing media outlets, the interviewer asked Sen. Rubio on how old he thought the Earth is. To which Sen. Rubio responded, "I'm not a scientist, man. I tell you what recorded history says, I can tell you what the Bible says, but I think that's a dispute amongst theologians and I think it has nothing to do with the gross domestic product or economic growth of the United States."

Sen. Rubio expanded his thoughts, "I think parents should be able to teach their kids what faith says, what science says. Whether the Earth was created in 7 days, or 7 actual eras, I'm not sure we'll ever be able to answer that. It's one of the great mysteries."

Based on this interview, and there is more to the GQ interview on this topic,Sen. Rubio is being branded by the Left as "Anti-Science" or pandering to the "Religious Right of the GOP party". Let's stop for a second and reflect on the conversation of Creationism and Evolution. Simply put the Creationism camp believes that God, or a higher power, essentially created the Universe and all that we see and interact with. The Evolution camp believe that Man has evolved from a subspecies and has become what we are today.

Now, why must we talk in terms of two camps - perhaps it is because we are so conditioned to Right vs. Wrong, GOP vs. DFL, White vs. Black, Straight vs. Gay,etc...Why can't these two theories of life and the Universe coexist as one larger theory?

Something created the Universe, Solar System and everything within it. Our world, our person, our everything is made of tiny molecules. Decades ago a great medical cure all was discovered - Penicillin - yet today some are allergic to it, some respond well to it while in some cases it has no effect anymore. Why might Penicillin have a reaction differently for some? Because organism adapt or evolve in order to stay in existence.

God, or the One, it is taught in religious circles, created the Universe in 7 days but days as we know it is very defined yet days may have an entirely different meaning. At the end of those 7 days we finally had Man - Adam. Yet the story of the Garden of Eden doesn't come alive or I should say Adam and Eve are not aware of their nakedness until they eat from the Forbidden Tree.

The awareness of their nakedness is a sexier story to tell then to say that Man became aware after years of evolution from being a chimp to the discovery of fire. God created the Universe and within the Universe established globes of laboratories to track the progress of his creation. The progress that God watches over are the forces in play from the creation thus elements within these globes will adapt, change or evolve over time. Within these globes of laboratories, God waited until a creature - Man - evolved to the point of being able to speak, procreate and develop a social strata. At this point God injected Man with the Spirit or the Essence of Man.

The Essence of Man is created to give Man uniqueness from the rest of world within Man operates. Over time God sent messengers to help guide the evolution of Man in hopes of creating a more perfect image or creature. The messengers have taken several forms - Noah, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, Allah, Budha - and these messengers where to influence what God created and direct the evolution of the physical surroundings of the Essence of Man.

I ask again, Why do we speak of Creationism and Evolution as mortal enemies and bitter rivals when it is feasible that they coexist in a larger theory or grand plan? As you go about your day today think about this and be thankful that you live in a country that protects your freedom to the ability to discuss such a topic.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Big Government At it again: NYC Bans Big Gulp!

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/31/nyregion/bloomberg-plans-a-ban-on-large-sugared-drinks.html?_r=1

The above link is to a news article published yesterday by the New York Times where Mayor Bloomberg announced that he plans to propose a ban on sugary drinks over 16 ounces. The ban would effect restaurants, fast food, movie theaters, ball parks and and deli's. Thankfully the proposed ban does not attack the vending machine or the grocery store.

Per the article: "Obesity is a nationwide problem, and all over the United States, public health officials are wringing their hands saying, ‘Oh, this is terrible,’ ” Mr. Bloomberg said in an interview on Wednesday in the Governor’s Room at City Hall.

I don't think anyone will deny the fact that obesity is a nationwide issue but let's look at the root cause of obesity; laziness and over indulgence. Any medical person will tell you that if you eat too much and exercise very little you will gain weight. Parents are the real problem and in an effort to not hold people accountable, New York City is dictating to the public that they are too stupid, or lazy, to take care of themselves.  While I understand that the "Occupiers" probably love this notion, unless of course it has to do with getting a job, of the Government telling them what to do, but if you  enjoy your freedoms and relish the ability to make a choice then make your voice heard in opposition.

During the Supreme Court hearing over ObamaCare, a Justice asked the Solicitor General if the Government can dictate health insurance coverage could they dictate broccoli? Now I admit I paraphrase but it is a serious question to be asked. The U.S. Constitution is very clear on what the Federal Government cannot do. That being said and the fact that the ban is at the city level, it starts us down a very slippery slope.

Parents of America do us all a favor - make sure you kids limit their TV, computer, texting, and computer game playing to less then hour a day and demand they do something more active for a hour a day. Don't take the lazy route of going to fast food for dinner or lunch; instead cook a meal, sit down with your family, and enjoy the time together. It is a little work but it will result in healthier kids and will avoid restricting legislation like Mayor Bloomberg is proposing.

Memorial Day

The sun is shining here in the hamlet of Hamburg. The tea kettle is whistling. The kids are waking one by one. Unfortunately, some families will wake today without a loved one that gave the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms. Far to many of us feel entitled to our freedom and don't give pause to thank those that choose to wear the uniform.

To all vets and active service men and women, THANK YOU!
